Polly: Pakistan is a work-in fedex locations for low-literacy populations through a viral game
One of the most popular ways to advertise job openings at low level is to use advertisements in local newspapers, but this excludes the majority of countries fedex locations in the developing world - even though they may have the skills to work - can not read or write. Hoping to address this problem, the platform Polly is a voice-based mobile gaming fun that also serves as a means of spreading employment opportunities for people with poor literacy.
Developed by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan, the service allows users to make free calls to Polly and record a short message to their friends. Using a menu key tone, callers can then listen to their new record and select a filter fun to put on the record. These can then choose which friends to send and choose which receive and send them to other people who do not know you personally and listen to the latest job listings in their area.
The idea behind the game is to initiate a connection between the illiterate people and provide job opportunities through a medium that uses language that is understandable to all. Because of the viral nature of the game, in its first 12 months the service has managed to reach more than 160,000 users who have more than 2.5 million calls for job listings.
Make jobs more engaging for the candidates can help cover the roles more quickly, as well as the hotel chain Marriott International has found that opportunity in 2011 when it launched its Farmville-style game to test your knowledge in the field of potential recruits.
